The best laid plans of mice and men....

...are like a chimp riding a Segway (via).

The internet is down at home, so I don't know if CDubs would like this clip. Guessing he would, because it involves a monkey going fast. Maybe we'll watch this very special video together this weekend, if Time Warner Cable honors their 4-hour-window appointment.

Moms, Dads, hold on to your memories of the world without the internet. How we used to entertain ourselves with simple games and tests of endurance. How comfortable we were with unanswered questions. I found myself at 1:00 AM last night, utterly paralyzed because I hadn't read the latest projections from fivethirtyeight.com. I have a lot to learn from my son, who is content to spend his days with a pile of 13 books from the local library.

And stay tuned, we've got clips from our friends Molly and Zach on the way. We'll be operating within expected parameters soon.

ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA

This little guy can say his abc's backwards and forwards. Nifty trick.

Someday I'll post the Alan Jackson video for "Little Bitty"

Not today. Hey, CDubs, look at the people dancing!

Did you know that American-style country line dancing is being done seriously around the world? It's certainly not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Provence. But look for yourself: It's a mob of red breasted cowboys and -girls from this summer's Fete de la Musique in Draguignan, France. They're doing the Tush Push.

Guess wherever there are bored people in the countryside the probability of line dancing is highest.

Art Blakey drum solo

Kids like jazz music. It's been confirmed by science several times (presumably; I'm just guessing here).

Kids like drums. At least CDubs does - he often tells me, "Daddy. Play drum. Play drum, Daddy."

I'm guessing CDubs is going to love this Art Blakey solo.

Classic Sesame Street: "Capital I" and "Lowercase n"

Have to admit, I like this one a lot more than CDubs. I first saw this on Sesame Street Old School, Vol. 1 but check out the YouTube page. Lots of comments from people who grew up loving this one.

I'm not alone in saying this, but we should talk it soon: Classic Sesame Street is in a different class than say, post-1980's Sesame Street. It's not just curmudgeonly nostalgia makes me say that. (At least it's not entirely that.)

Dolphins at play

Sure, underwater bubble rings look like magic to you and me. But try showing a dolphin that breakout game on your cell phone. He'll be like, what?!

Firefighters working with helicopters

What do firefighters do? A. They put out fires. Here is the LAFD fighting fires through the night. Plus, they use a helicopter to drop water on the fire!

Baby ducklings, out and about

Baby Ducklings from Linda McClure on Vimeo.

These young ducks are strutting their stuff. What what!

"I wanna see sheep running"

Here you go, it's a massive herd of sheep running. This video comes from Te Kuiti, New Zealand, where the annual running of the sheep rivals Barcelona's running of the bulls - at least in terms of sheer numbers of animals. (Sheer, ha!)

This video might be a helpful sleeping aid to those who count sheep before bedtime.

Mysterious Dancing Dog

Nobody knows why the dog dances. But let nobody deny that he FEELS THE BEAT!

Hardcore Gabber Penguin Dance

Yes, it's true. Penguins can FEEL THE BEAT! (True story behind Happy Feet.)

James Taylor sings Jellyman Kelly

From Sesame Street, circa 1980. That tuba is so sweet.
